The opening day set the tone with impactful keynotes.
Beyond the plenary, delegates joined workshops on digitalisation, AI, sustainability, climate risk, and regulation – all designed to equip actuaries with practical tools for a changing risk environment.
The day ended with the New Qualifiers Ceremony, where IFoA President Paul Sweeting celebrated 34 new Associates and Fellows alongside their families, marking both individual achievement and the profession’s shared future.
Day two maintained momentum with a thought-provoking Professional Skills session ‘Actuaries in the public interest’. Chaired by Patrick Cheah with Paul Sweeting and Aiza Benyamin, the panel encouraged actuaries to confront ethical challenges and embrace their wider duty to society.
The student showcase was another standout, with around 60 students engaging in dialogue with leaders, including Paul Sweeting, Daniel Lee (EY), and Nurliana Mat Lazim (MCIS Life). Coupled with the employer showcase featuring Zurich, Allianz, Prudential, and Malaysian Life Reinsurance, the sessions gave students a rare chance to connect directly with industry and explore career pathways.
Equally inspiring was ‘Her influence: shaping futures, breaking barriers in a changing world’. Five senior leaders joined moderator Farzana Ismail (Principal and Consulting Actuary, Milliman) to share personal stories of leadership, resilience, and empowerment. They were: Norlida (Oli) Azmi (Founder, Chapter Advisory), Yuen Leng Chin (CFO, Zurich Malaysia), Abir Abdul Rahim (Head of e-Channel, Etiqa Insurance and Takaful), Sharm Ravindran (Managing Partner, Ravindran), and Nur Fatihah Mustafa (CEO, Zurich Takaful Malaysia Berhad).
The conference closed on a high note, with delegates praising the event as “well-structured, insightful, and rich in networking opportunities.” It was a celebration not only of professional excellence but of the community that continues to drive the actuarial profession forward in Asia.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Kuala Lumpur and online for making the IFoA Asia Conference 2025 a success.
