Mahidhara Davangere South Asia Scholars 2023 announced

Mahidhara Davangere South Asia Scholars 2023 announced The second cohort of Mahidhara Davangere South Asia Scholarships have been awarded to 15 scholars from IFoA partner universities in South Asia to support their journey to IFoA qualification.

This brings the total number of students supported by the fund in South Asia to 25. We hope that the success of these students will demonstrate to everyone who contributed to the memorial fund of Mahidhara Davangere what an amazing legacy these students can create.

Due to the high standard of applicants the selection process was challenging, but now, thanks to their scholarship, the successful 15 students will be gearing up to sit their first funded IFoA examination in September.

The gratitude of the scholars has been heartwarming. All have sent messages of thanks and expressed hopes of one day repaying the kindness they have been shown by the donors of the Mahidhara Davangere legacy fund.

“I am honoured and grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the Mahidhara Davangere South Asia Scholarship for 2023. This scholarship award will enable me to take the next step in my career development and pursue my dreams. I am grateful to have received such an amazing opportunity, which will allow me to focus on my studies and career goals without the burden of financial stress. I will work hard to achieve my goals and make the most of this opportunity. I hope to make you proud and demonstrate that your investment in my future was worth it.”
Nupur Chauhan, Amity University

“With the rising costs of tuition, books, and living expenses, this scholarship will undoubtedly help alleviate some of the financial burden that comes with pursuing actuarial exams, especially from a lower-income country like India. I am thrilled to have been recognised for my academic achievements and I promise to use this scholarship to its fullest potential. It is a privilege to be the recipient of such a prestigious award. This scholarship will not only benefit me but also inspire me to continue to strive for academic excellence and contribute positively to my community.”
Chinmaya NS, Christ University

“Please accept my most sincere appreciation to you for giving me such an enlightening opportunity in the form of this scholarship. Words are not enough to express my gratitude and appreciation for being one of the few selected students who received this prestigious scholarship. This achievement will help me to keep my best foot forward, especially in areas out of my comfort zone. As a result, I will be able to harness my full potential and try to make you proud by excelling my skill set in the domain of actuarial science.”
Aakanksha Kulkarni, Patkar Varde

Vikas Newatia, a member of the IFoA Markets Development Team, was part of the committee that shortlisted and awarded the applicants. “It’s a pleasure to be able to award scholarships to these deserving students in memory of Mahidhara Davangere. It takes talent and determination to pursue this valued actuarial qualification while studying at university. We hope the awards give these promising actuaries the best chance of success.”

Masimba Zata, Trustee of the IFoA Foundation, was also part of the shortlisting committee. “I was privileged to be part of the selection panel for this year's scholarship awards and was incredibly moved by the determination of all the applicants to achieve their dreams of an actuarial career. I am grateful to all those who donated to the Foundation in memory of Mahidhara Davangere because they helped to move each dream a step closer to becoming a reality.”

As with all the charitable activities we deliver at the IFoA Foundation, in order to be able to offer scholarships and grants to individuals, and projects such as the Mahidhara Davangere South Asia Scholarship Fund, we rely on the donations of supporters, corporates and IFoA members. Thank you to all our supporters for making this possibility a reality for these scholars.
