Why recognition matters: Celebrating the impact of IFoA volunteers

Why recognition matters: Celebrating the impact of IFoA volunteers As we approach the IFoA Volunteer Recognition Awards, Clarence Er reflects on the vital role volunteers play in strengthening the actuarial profession, and why recognising their contributions is essential to fostering a thriving, engaged community.

At the IFoA, volunteers form a key part of our profession. From shaping how the profession operates to driving research initiatives, our volunteers contribute countless hours to strengthen the actuarial community.

Yet, while the impact of their work is visible, the importance of recognising it cannot be overstated. Recognition reinforces the value of each contribution, fosters a sense of belonging, and inspires continued engagement. For volunteers, acknowledgment signals that their expertise, time and dedication truly make a difference.

As we approach the IFoA Volunteer Recognition Awards, it is worth reflecting on the role recognition plays in building a thriving volunteer culture. Celebrating achievements publicly not only rewards the individuals involved but also highlights inspiring examples that encourage others to step forward and get involved.

I would also like to take a moment to express our gratitude to every volunteer who gives their time, knowledge, and passion to the IFoA. Your contributions shape our profession, strengthen our community and help ensure that the actuarial profession continues to thrive.

To all our volunteers: thank you. Recognition is just one way to show our appreciation, but the real reward is the lasting difference you make.
