Mental Health Awareness Week 2025 presents an opportunity for us to shine a spotlight on the importance of mental health in our lives. This year's theme, ‘community’, emphasises the value collective of support and understanding in supporting mental wellbeing.
Communities can help support our mental health in many ways. One is helping to breakdown the stigma attached to it. Mental health stigma remains one of the most pervasive barriers preventing people from seeking help. Fear of judgment, discrimination, and misunderstanding can deter individuals from opening up about their mental health struggles. By fostering a sense of community, we can create environments where people feel safe to share their experiences without fear.
The Mental Health Foundation has prepared 10 tips for getting involved in your community. It can be tough working out how you can best get involved with your community, so hopefully these can give you some ideas on how to get involved! You can download a poster from their website to share in your workplace.
The start of 2025 marked the start of our latest phase of work where we will be focusing on four key areas:
The disability insurance workstream has recently published an article detailing its initial review of the market and plans for work going forward.
The working party has also published the results of the underwriting survey we undertook last year. We wrote out to insurers asking for insight into their underwriting approach to mental health conditions and we can now share the results in this paper. We would also like to thank all those who took the time to respond to this survey.
